Foundation Repair · Bexar County
Not every foundation crack is a structural emergency, but cracks are worth taking seriously because they can let in water and may signal movement underneath. Crack repair ranges from sealing hairline shrinkage cracks to reinforcing cracks that are part of a larger settlement problem. The first job is figuring out which kind you have.

Thin, stable cracks are often the result of normal concrete curing and shrinkage and mainly need sealing to keep moisture out. Cracks that are wide, that step diagonally, that are growing, or that come alongside sticking doors and uneven floors may point to foundation movement. In those cases, sealing the crack alone won't solve anything — the underlying cause has to be addressed, often with underpinning, or the crack will simply return.
It depends on the width, direction, and whether it's changing. Horizontal or widening cracks and ones paired with other symptoms deserve prompt attention, while many hairline cracks are minor. An evaluation is the only reliable way to tell them apart.
If the crack is cosmetic, sealing it is appropriate. If it's a symptom of settlement, filling it is only temporary — the foundation needs to be stabilized first, and then the crack can be repaired so it stays closed.
